Beyonce and Jay-Z had a baby and people tweeted, posted on Facebook and news outlets were so happy with congratulations over the birth. A birth is a happy time for everyone, showing the hope imparted in a new generation. There is something we have allowed ourselves to accept in the case of celebrities, and it spills over into a stark distinction between the 1% and the 99%.

We have all heard about celebrities, wanting privacy, who rent out hotel floors to have privacy. Its something that is almost part of Celebrity 101, once you hit a certain level, you have the means of protecting your privacy. We, us little folk, read this information in a gossip magazine or hear it on the news and we think nothing of it. In the case of Beyonce and the baby, some rumors had it she rented the whole floor of a hospital to have her baby. We hear it and are so used to it we go OK. What we didn't think about was Lenox Hill Hospital, the place where she had the baby, is a working hospital, with other patients in the building. To 'protect their privacy' security was tightened with a private security force. Other people who had babies in the materity ward had difficulty moving about because of it. In some cases, they were barred from seeing their children, just because Beyonce and Jay-Z didn't want pictures of the baby taken and spread over the Internet.

So you have people with lots of money, who 'value their privacy' having the resources to bring in their own security and making their own rules in a place where business, and not just any business but a hospital that is caring for the sick and mothers with new babies, is conducted. Collectively we don't think of the action as odd. We sort of hear the story and file it away until another celebrity does something odd that none of us would be capable of doing. How many times has Lindsay Lohan dodged jail or had been sentenced for moths and has been out in hours? When have you been able to shut down a whole store just because you want to shop alone?

I'm not hating that celebrities have money, it is the nature of the business they are in, but I get concerned when I hear stories about the clash with regular folks, because most of us kind of accept behavior from them we wouldn't accept from other people, like say politicians or business people, because of their celebrity.
