I’ve had a few Facebook people who feel they have transitioned. That is a fancy TV SF term I use when a TV character has a seemingly miraculous change in their live that profoundly challenges their outlook on life. You could call it the becoming (JMS B5), breaking out (Tomorrow People) or any number of phrases from former and current SF TV shows, but whatever phrase is used the result is the person reaches a higher plane of existence, a higher level of understanding.

I think because the people who have mentioned this ‘transition’ on Facebook aren’t people I see every day or are people whom I’ve met and have proven themselves contradictory in their face to face meeting to their Facebook persona, I think of the long messages about finding their universal truth as attention getting maneuvers to pump up their FB cred rather than any ‘true’ learning experience. Knowing that most FB followers are not going to bother exploring what these people are saying as opposed to what they are doing, it looks to me like a lot of self-serving nonsense.

Just to explain a little deeper, my distrust doesn’t spring from one or two inconsistencies between real life and FB. I’m talking about people I have been around from a year or two or more. I’ve interacted with them in public and private. Using my own measuring rod, I may not have broken bread with a lot of them or visited their homes, but I’ve worked with them in varying degrees. As anyone that knows me can verify, I don’t blindly put people on my follow list. If I’ve shaken your hand, if I’ve had some dealings with you then I will probably do a FB link.

I’m saying this to confirm I’m not feeling anger about the issue because of some distance swipe or slight made by someone I don’t know. Whenever I’ve come across one of these ‘come to Jesus’ moments the first thing I do is go over past information on line and verify. If someone talks about being a spiritual leader, I look to see if they walk the walk. The fact that I would have suspicions about a post they put in FB already tells me my gut has issue with their holier than thou attitude. The only thing I can do when those concerns are confirmed is to tell personal friends I know about the issue if they have dealings with the person.

I know, it is a very big news flash that people lie on FB. Yeah, I’m just going to call it as it really is. What irks me is when they peddle this false image to people, folks are unwilling to look at the facts in the matter. If someone claims to be a Christian, talks about being honest in all parts of his life, but is ripping off people for thousands of dollars year after year that’s a problem for me. I’ve succumbed to believing in the fantasy and not the reality of a situation. I learned a lot, it toughened me up and I have the scars to prove it.

My best advice I can give to anyone is to follow the Reagan slogan “Trust but Verify.” Unfortunately the ones that are the most spiritual, the ones that seem so in tune with ‘the Universal truth’ are the ones that are going to be the scammers and charlatans. Someone who is truly at peace with themselves doesn’t need to brag about it on social media. They show it by consistent action. Affirmations sent every few days doesn’t make them knowledgeable in truth and justice.
