The quick history I am learning about the statement Mitt Romney made a few hours ago should worry every American. Before learning the full facts of the attacks in Libya and the situation in Egypt, Romney had crafted a response not based on knowledge but on political expedience. We know this because the written comment was embargoed, meaning he told the press to hold off on releasing the statement because he didn't want any politics to occur on his side on 9/11.

People, what Mitt Romney did in foreign policy in this case wasn't a laughable moment such as the Olympic comment he made to the English, this wasn't a rich person's out of touch moment as in Israel when he commented on the Palestinians. Who in the world is in charge of foreign policy on the Romney staff? There is something serious to consider in what Romney has done. The main issue is Romney should have known his criticism shouldn't have been given until more information about the incident had been released. Second, Romney should have know his statement would endanger Americans in the region because of past incidents like this. Anyone with a history of reading a newspaper or watching the news in the past four years would have remembered the Muslim attacks on Americans because of the inadvertent desecration of the Koran, and of the uproar that occurred with the Dutch images of Mohammad. If all those failed surely he would have remembered about the crazy minister, who was instrumental in promoting the offending film, who last year threatened to burn the Koran on 9/11 and how that angered Muslims around the world. With that climate why would Romney think putting his two cents in early would calm the situation?

Last, and this also isn't such a minor point, why didn't anyone on his staff stop him from doing this? If we consider Romney was bull headed in his action who were the advisors responsible for steering him in the right direction? Did Romney just ignore their advice or did they encourage him? Considering the doubling down being done by the Romney team it probably doesn't matter because they are siding with the boss. That is even a scarier prospect. When he is wrong Romney will not admit making a mistake. He's going to circle the wagons and continue to explain why his position is right while evidence suggests he is wrong. If you don't believe me, just go to a few days ago on Meet The Press and see how he softened on his statement about Obamacare and said he would keep policies in place that have already been implemented, yet hours later his staff issued a statement Romney still wants to kill Obamacare. He also did the same thing with the automobile industry bailout.

This should frighten everyone in America, but it won't. The only reason why Republicans are voicing concern is because they want to win the White House. They don't care about his statement and how it reflects on America. To know this, just look at the information I talked about in the first paragraph. Romney and the Republicans didn't think in a international affairs way but a American election way. He wrote the statement late yesterday evening but because of the national significance of 9/11 he asked the press to embargo the statement until the next day. That would mean the situation wasn't a crisis in their eyes. If it was a crisis, as President Romney would want that information to get out right away. As a candidate, who wants to hurt the current President, candidate Romney didn't want to feel like a crass opportunist and release the statement while the American people were again reminded of the horror of 9/11. So, as a candidate, he got half information and wanted to make sure he could hit the President, so he made sure to get it released at the first opportune moment. If he were thinking as a President, he would have waited to get more information before issuing a statement, since at the time the situation was fluid.

We don't need another President who shoots from the hips and follows cowboy diplomacy.
