According to a Fox News poll, most Americans (read 96%) feel very or somewhat thankful this holiday season. The report says there is a 3% margin for error and the thankfulness meter is high along all economic, racial and political spectrum. Of course, this being a Fox News poll, politics has to at the base of the polling to prove their conservative point. With another part of the poll, which asked the 'clever' question who are the biggest turkeys of 2011, politicians ranked higher than Wall Street executives in a head to head comparison.

So, according to the Fox News poll, the people that participate in the Occupy movement are out of touch with 'real' Americans because their polls shows a vast majority of people thankful for what they have this season and they blame politicians more than they do Wall Street executives.

Do you know why people are thankful for what they have? People are clinging to what little they have as hope because they are afraid of sliding further down the poverty hole. If you have a person with a job, as bad as it may be, they are thankful to have that rather than hoping for an unemployment check. The person with an unemployment check is thankful because they have a check rather than no check. I saw on the news this morning that food banks my area are worried about not being to help out the needy because they have a huge crush of people that need help and people that used to donate food are now in need of food. Companies set up for toy drives are worried they may not have enough toys to go to needy kids.

I'll be honest, I'm thankful that I haven't made the slide into poverty, as defined by the government, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm thankful and happy. I know I'm a paycheck away from not being able to pay my bills. I haven't had the money to pay for the doctor visits I should get, so I'm thankful I haven't been seriously sick. Now, I've had bouts I've been able to power through, so I'm not sure what long time issues might happen to me, but I've been able to make it to work. Right now might diabetes is kicking up and my eyes are a little messed up. I can't see very well far sighted, so my TV that is about 5 yards away from me looks fuzzy. Thankfully my near sight is good which is what I need for my job.

For all this stuff that I would love to feel sorry for myself, I am constantly told by media that there are people worse off than I am, and I should be grateful and thankful for what I have. Just like the poll that was taken, instead of thinking about what my life is like, knowing that it could be better with some minor steps, I'm not supposed to be mad at that. I'm supposed to look and see those less fortunate than I and be grateful I'm not on their level.
