When Obama first became President, Rush Limbaugh famously said he wished the President would fail. Right now, I will go him one better, I hope the President fails and I hope the Republicans gain control of the House, Senate and Presidency. Yes, I want them to have full control of the country. They seem to have all the answers, with their supply side economics, the trickle-down theory and tax cuts for the rich.

Of course every American has the dream of being rich, and it’s a very good dream to have, but if you aren’t rich you are nothing but a cog in the Republican machinery. You are a stat, a number; you are not free under the Republican plan.

I am tired of seeing statistics, of seeing graphs, of seeing evidence both practical and personal that show this country was in a steep decline years ago and is still in the decline. I’m tired of hearing older people talk about taking back the country when they were the ones to give the country away in the first place. It was their value of greed and envy that brought us to where we are now. They lived off credit and as long as they could have the lifestyles of the rich and famous they were happy to let politicians do what they did. It was the older folks who would turn a blind eye to immigration if it meant getting lower prices for lettuce or getting a cheap house cleaner. When gas got expensive, instead of remembering and trying to look for alternative sources of energy, they grumbled and complained about the prices until they fell again. Did they get rid of the gas guzzling SUVs? No. Did they work to get better public transportation? No.

As long as the rough side of the American dream was being felt by the guys across town, most Americans were OK to let others suffer.

You had Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin at the Lincoln Memorial today, telling the assembled mostly white crowd it was time for them to take up the mantle of Dr. Martin Luther King and fight for the civil rights they lost. They were told they need to reclaim America. They are mad at the current government yet they were silent when the last government got us into two wars and allowed jobs to run like a running faucet overseas. The crowd was silent when Reagan started dismantling the infrastructure that allowed families and individuals to have a safety net. The crowd is now mad that foreigners are taking jobs from hard working Americans and are trying to put up demon religious symbols near the crater that was the World Trade Center, however there is no questioning as to why, after almost nine years, there is still a crater at the World Trade Center.

No matter what is said a majority of people will refuse to see the truth. So if it means destroying the farms in order to save them, I say destroy it. I say let the Republicans win and then let’s see what they do. Let the Limbaughs and the Becks laugh all the way to the bank, spewing the hate. Let’s turn back the clock and return to the simple America so many people dream about. See, I had a friend who loved everything from medieval times and he said he wished he could be in those times so he could be a knight. This was someone in their 20s at the time so it wasn’t some kid’s fantasy. He, of course, was concentrating on the positive aspects of the era, and I had to point out the sad truth of what his life might be like if he really lived in those times, such as he wasn’t a noble so he would never be a knight. He would probably be a slave, working the land for nothing and dying or some horrible disease by the time he was 30. He thought I was too negative but glossing over history is what gets us in so much trouble.

The people wanting to reclaim America and bring America back, with its religious intolerance and possible racial division are looking at life with Leave it to Beaver lenses. For someone like myself, and a growing number of people who call America home, we weren’t part of the Leave it to Beaver landscape and the reality of the times were a lot harsher than TV depicted.
