I wasn’t planning on watching the interview with Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California. I was tired of the whole pageant thing and treating this woman as if she was a role model. In my assumption I figured that talk about the dropping of the lawsuit amid rumors of a sex tape surfacing, would be ignored.

OK, I was wrong.

Right off the bat Meredith Viera of NBC’s Today Show brought up the dropping of the lawsuit and the sex tape. Prejean’s response was so pageant like, so and I know I’m going to get hit for this, but it was so FoxNews like that I turned off the TV after the answer.

SIDENOTE: Just did a little checking and it seems Prejean was on FoxNews before the NBC Today Show and gave the same response to the sex tape question.

First off, while it may have worked for Bill Clinton, trying to redefine what sex is when someone asks about the existence of a sex tape, which in and of itself might ruin the squeaky clean image you put on yourself, is wrong. When caught it is better to admit the wrong doing than try to cover it up.

What did Prejean, forced paragon of religious persecution do? She said you could call it sex tape if you like but she sent it to a high school boyfriend years ago, there was no one else in the video and she was alone in the room.

Translation: she set up a tripod, set up a camera, masturbated and sent it to her boyfriend.

I’m pausing for a moment because honestly, I would consider it sex but it is possible, albeit unusual, to actually believe her read of the story. She can say it wasn’t a sex tape and anyone who thinks it is is wrong. Problem one is she had a lawsuit set up, ready to attack the pageant who fired her partially because of religious persecution. When you go that far you’re pretty much are saying you have a perfect life. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that’s how the game is played. I’m sure her lawyers asked if there was ANYTHING in her past that might bite her in the ass. While you might not think masturbation is sex, if you write a book talking about how young women are bombarded by sexual images and how wrong it is, splayed out masturbating would probably qualify as something that could bite you in the ass.

Again, giving her that point her real problem is hypocrisy; something many Americans are suffering from. Why she decided to have the lawsuit is a big mystery. It doesn’t make sense. She was fired, was rehired then fired again. She was, by all accounts, doing well at playing the victim to pro-conservative crowds. This crowd was ready to embrace her, even though if you disregard the sex tape (not know at the time) you had her answer to gay marriage (matter of opinion), the breast implants she accepted by the pageant (hmm, some questions there) and the photos that surfaced which were kind of nude which she explained away as errant wind and an excited photographer.

The errant photos should have been a giveaway but really, she thought an explanation of a divine combination of wind and sticky fingers would make people feel sorry for her? Well, truth be told it did to some in the conservative movement. She used them just as much as they used her. Again, in researching this I saw an opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times and the commentator is upset with the liberal press and the persecution given to Prejean yet the President has the same feelings about gay marriage yet he is given a pass. Prejean feeds into that perceived persecution and writes a book and give speeches to make money.
