There are a number of articles on the LA Times website this morning about diabetes; how to manage it, debates on diets and other information that I’m sure is helpful for someone like myself. As much as I want to think I have this under control, I know I still have habits that can make diabetes rear itself up very bad. I can read all the articles out there listen to my body and try to do the things I should do to be healthy, but the number one problem I have with controlling diabetes is seeing a doctor.

Right now I have no job so I have no insurance to see a doctor. Seeing a doctor is going to cost money I don’t have being unemployed. Just recently I had to juggle the books in a way I was uncomfortable with, but I got things paid off and but at bay some bill collectors for another months, but there isn’t a way I can budget for a doctor, if I can find a doctor. I remember when I was working and had to seek out a doctor for the first time it took a month and a half before anyone would see me. From all indications, once I saw a doctor, I was slowly dying while waiting for someone to see me is an outrage.

Now I’m back in the same situation but worse, since I have no way to pay someone if I saw them. All I can do right now is hope that the foods I’m trying to eat will keep me healthy.

About foods that keep you healthy, have you noticed how hard it is to stay healthy on a budget? I can go to the grocery store and maybe get some healthy food, but a lot of it is the same preprocessed junk that isn’t good for me. I have to go some ways to get to a health food store and the prices there are well over what I could get at the regular store. For instance I can get the not good for you wheat bread for under a dollar. For the multigrain wheat I should get it $2 to $3. Sometime meats are at a good price at the grocery store but at the health store I can get authentic free range or organic meats, but I’m going to pay anywhere from a few cents to a dollar more per pound for it.

All of these numbers don’t count the villain of fast food into the mix. Right now a certain fast food chain is advertising a huge cheeseburger for $1. For a few dollars more I can have a whole meal. It would be empty calories that will not be good for me, but it will taste good and it will be cheap. In a lot of cases I can force myself not to eat that because being unemployed I’m not rushing to work so I have the time to go to the store and get something semi fresh to eat.
