During these economic times people start to take drastic measures to save money. There have been many reports about dollar stores getting more business. It was funny because there was a woman on one of the morning shows who was going to have some kind of expose on dollar stores, showing how you really didn’t get things for a dollar. Well, she tried bringing up return policies and a few other issues but as she went along in her talk, you realized there wasn’t a difference with the dollar stores in policy or quality. By the end of her talk I think more people raced to a dollar store to buy stuff.

People are hurting to make it in this economy. When you look at it, what people are facing is lifestyle more than economic issues. We have to learn to scale down our spending. Sometimes you just don’t want to, but to have to do it if you’re going to survive the downturn. I have a friend who just lost her job, so now she has the time to audition more. She’s been in this position before so she knows she has to cut down on stuff to get by.

When I had my job one thing we always tried to tell customers, especially those that wanted to save money, was you have to think long term. By that it was months and not years. A lot of my internet items I have for two years, so they don’t run out until the end of next year. At the time it seemed like a huge investment, but now with me scrambling for money, knowing I don’t have to pay for them until next year means it’s something I don’t have to tackle now. Just today I decide to gather the spare change I put in a jar and buy some food. I thought I had about $10 in change but when all was said and done I had $30. I bought a lot of long term food and I had money left over.

I’m not a perfect person on this but I’m aware of the condition and the adjustments that have to be made. Right now I’m doing a lot of job searches by computer because it costs less than driving looking for places. If I have to get something quick I’m going to check in my area, at least for something temporary.

I did have a plan, when I thought I would still have a job, of building a new computer. As much as I ‘need’ one I’m putting that on the back burner. By planning ahead, however, I was able to earn money for the equipment I have so the production business can get off the ground. While this economic slump is bad, there are ways of attacking it so it doesn’t attack you. By doing that people can survive this and be better on the other side.
