I've made the decision and working on saving the last bit of money. By the end of May I will have a new car. While I'm writing this I'm hearing the same woman I hear about 3 times a week (I take the bus 4 days to work so do the math) speaking loudly into her phone. I will have to listen to this for the next hour. Yes she talks that long and that loud. Ah, some of the things I won't miss when I get a car.

I didn't want to do financing for the car but it struck me that my big goal is to get a house and by financing a car it could help in building my credit when I'm ready to get a house. This week, when I started to get all the things together to get a car, I realized how long it takes to do something without a car. I love taking he bus and its relaxing to me, for the most part, but taking the bus on Wednesday it took me from 8am to 5pm to run all the errands I had to do. I only needed to go to three places and at each stop I was there less than an hour. In a car it would have taken maybe four hours to get everything done and I could have left later from the house.

I'm not looking forward to the payments, the insurace, gas and upkeep money going out, but I will like being able to sleep in a few more hours. I will like not having to hear phone conversations I don't want to hear. I'll like being able, if I want to, getting up early on a day off and deciding I want to go to San Diego and getting in the car and driving there. While plane fare is cheaper now (surprise) I have to plan 2-3 weeks in advance for the trip and if I can get it, once in San Diego I'm tied to the trolley or bus routes.

So, by the end of May I'll be back in the saddle of a car. It has some drawbacks but the freedom will overcome any trepidations I have.
