Another instance of news bursts, I guess that might be my new name for these things, comes out and once you dig into the story you find it’s a lot less than what we were lead to believe.

Breathless reports came out earlier today about our favorite mother, the Octo-mom, had a rather scandalous job early in her career. According to quite a few news sources I saw in the evening, they said, as reported by the National Enquirer, that when she was around 18-19 years old she worked as a stripper. It was a moment, on the three news shows where I heard the information, where you had the reporter kind of embarrassed to talk about it, but also pleased about it. The other thing I noticed was the careful wording that it was in the Enquirer, which was sort of the wiggle room they gave themselves to say, well we don’t know if its true but it probably is.

Hmm, well a few hours later, after going to the Enquirer website and reading the whole story (which I’m sure any staffer, producer or reporter could have done) the story was far less scandalous than it was reported.

Here is the actual report the Enquirer had:
“Nadya confessed to a close pal: "I had not even kissed a boy. But I entered a dance/lingerie contest in a club near my home. I danced and paraded in lingerie.
"Then, when I was 19, I went to a gentleman's club and performed as a topless dancer. But I only did it one night. I quit when I found out I was expected to perform lap dances on the customers.”

So, just like the Enquirer, the ‘respectable’ news stations threw out a statement where they said she was a stripper, which conjures up all sorts of images of her working hard in some seedy club, when in reality she entered a couple of bikini contests and worked as a topless dancer one night. While it may not be the best judgment, working at a topless bar one night I don’t think sets her up as some hardcore exotic dancer.

Of course, that doesn’t matter because we’re suppose to think the woman is crazy and this just fits the pattern of her being an unfit mother, of some mental defect and a lot of other issues. To me it’s irresponsible that a story like this isn’t put in context. People will hear Octo-mom was a stripper and just add it up to another reason why we should be in her business.

This whole story as become so dirty, and it’s from all sides. The scene when she arrived at her house with the first group of babies and there was a mob scene there was insane. She doesn’t want the publicity, she says, but she has Radar online covering her every move. The press says they don’t want to cover her, but they can’t help themselves and will let the gossip press do the dirty work, like the Enquirer story, then they ‘reluctantly’ report the story, under the guise of if they don’t do it someone else will.

Is it any wonder that we know more about this woman than the contents of the bill that allowed AIG to get the bailout and the loophole placed in at the last moment to allow for the bonuses to be given?
