I have never seen the show Pretty Little Liars. I have seen ads on various websites about it, and I honestly thought it was some CW/WB type teen girl angst show. I guess I was right about the teen girl angst but it is on the Disney Family channel. Anyway, I was spared the speculation of who the mysterious 'A' was, with a year of hints and clues.

The only contact I had with the show was an appearance of three of the four girls on The View promoting the season two finale. The actors made sure not to reveal who 'A' was, even when prodded by The View members. I remember all of this as being a bit silly because I didn't know the context of the show so I wasn't sure if this was the teenage vampire girl show, the teenage girl witch show, or teenage mean girls show. All I knew was there had been this two year drama building as to who the mysterious 'A' was and all would be revealed in the season finale. Who would it be?

Today I see an article about fans commenting on the big reveal about who the mysterious 'A' is. Apparently it was one of the Pretty Little Liars, but in explaining a slight possible twist to the story (logically I would have to question the slight twist because it was revealed by a person in a mental institution according to the article) it seems that not only is Pretty Little Liars based on a set of YA books (all the rage for producers now for a quick hit series) but in the series 'A' had been revealed.

OK, step back and think about this for a moment. The TV show builds up this mystery about this 'A' character who is terrorizing the young women, they build up with the TV audience, clues, missteps and drama to make them wonder who the mystery person is, but this is all based on a set of books so if anyone was even slightly curious as to the identity of 'A' all they had to do was read the books?!

I guess my utter surprise is, in reading the comments left by fans in the article, if they were such big fans of the TV show, why didn't they read the books? Some people had read the books, which makes their comments even more confusing, since if they had read the books, wouldn't they have known the outcome well before the season finale?
