I'm in the pre-Comic Con jitters time frame. No matter how many times I've been through it (over 30 years) it still happens. The anticipation, the loss of time, the swearing that this time will be different yet things still end up being the same frantic mess. No matter if I have a lot planned, which tends to make me decide to relax when I get to the convention, or if I have nothing planned, which makes me upset because there are so many opportunities missed, this time of year is frustrating because of the lack of time.

That's the long way of saying I'm not as prepared as I'd like to be for the convention that starts, for me, exactly in one week.

There are a number of world and local events I should be talking about, but I would be fooling myself because this is when I can understand the Casey Anthony obsessives, I get the Kim Kardashian followers, and I can simultaneously be in the camp where I can complain about the apparent disrespect some treat the convention because they haven't been around and understand the tradition of the convention like I do, having gone for so many years, and be puzzled by the lack of retrospective coverage of the convention even though The San Diego Union has almost had a countdown to the convention, the LA Times has had coverage of what guests will be at Hall H and many other publications have acknowledged the power of the convention.

To put this in geek terms, the pendulum swings from wondering why Glee and Twilight are represented at the convention but having a guilty conscious thinking Adrianne Curry and Lea Michele at the convention will be a good thing.

So yes, for the next few weeks Chaotic Fringe will be in Comic Con mode.

Casey Anthony, racial injustice, the debt ceiling limits; those will be put in the background. The next few weeks are meant for all the anxiety, fun and eventual fond memories of the San Diego Comic Con.
