I just wrote an article about how fans sometimes get too involved with characters created by others, commenting on every choice they feel is wrong, and I turn around and I'm giving an opinion on a first look at the the new live action Wonder Woman.

I'll cut to the chase; I hate it. Not hate like I think it is a terrible costume, or that the actress Adrianne Palicki won't do a good job, but she honestly reminds me of Kim Kardashian in a Wonder Woman like costume. I can't say I fully hate the idea but Kim Kardashian isn't Wonder Woman.

I have read some comments where fans have problems that her boots are blue and not red. Well, I'm not going to get that detailed into the fan soup, but I think the costume is close to what it should look like. I'm not a fan of the spray on pants but a star spangled skirt would have been silly. Heels? How in the world do you fight in heels?

The costume isn't the whole problem I have. The actress looks like a kid dressing up as Wonder Woman, and that has to be a fault of the casting people. The maxim of comic book adaptations is the person you pick to play a role should not look silly in the costume. They shouldn't look like fan walking through Comicon.

Here is the thing; when I think Wonder Woman I think Lynda Carter, but it's not just because she was the first memorable live action representation of her. She looks like a woman who could fight and win, and that's what you're looking for in a Wonder Woman. She shouldn't be muscled up and ripped, but she needs curves.

The best example I can think of would be thinking about Gabrielle and Xena. Adrianne looks like Gabrielle, very nice, maybe capable, but when she walks into a room I'm not seeing someone who could wipe the floor of any man in the room. Now, when Xena walks into a room, you can tell she can handle herself. She has the build of a woman who can fight.

Here's another example of casting right for the part. If I had a choice between Trisha Helfer or Katee Sackhoff, both of Battlestar Galactica, I would chose Sackhoff. I think most casting people, judging by the recent No Ordinary Family, would pick Helfer because she looks good. Looking good doesn't translate into interpreting the character correctly. Sackhoff looks good but also looks like she could take you out in a brawl and that makes for someone who embodies the essence of Wonder Woman. So, from what I've seen, they have this really nice girl playing dress up as Wonder Woman, but she ain't Wonder Woman.
