Twitter can be such a stupid thing. People use it for the spur of the moment, posting something in the middle of emotions, not thinking of the consequences. The kicker is Twitter has been around long enough, with enough examples of errant messages being sent that people would use some planning in postings.

LeAnn Rimes recently got upset because talk show host Wendy Williams made not so flattering comments about her affair with Eddie Cibrian. Now, why all of this is important I have no idea. LeAnn Rimes is not relevant to me, not relevant to any friends I have and I would hazard a guess to say that if it were really put to a test people that really have an emotional investment in her personal life, especially with the cheating she did on her husband and the breakup she did with Cibrian and his wife and children, would be a low number. I doubt the comments made by a third tier talk show host would register with the general public. But LeAnn was so hurt by the comments made she didn’t go to her pastor, she didn’t go to her mother, she didn’t go to Cibrian or any number of people to keep her feelings private. She went to Twitter and posted. Part of what she said in the post was this:

“I’m incredibly disappointed to see someone with that kind of platform use it for such negativity and could be so mean and judgmental about a situation they know nothing about.”

Really now? Mean and judgmental? A situation they know nothing about? See, this is why I say Twitter people, those obsessed with Twitter, can look like idiots. Wendy Williams didn’t just dip into a puzzle box and conjured up the information she had, thus giving her the ability to make her comments. She didn’t get secret information from someone ‘in her camp’ who leaked the torrid information about the affair. LeAnn was on the cover of Shape magazine ‘opening up’ about her relationship. She was the one who talked about growing apart from her husband, about feeling terrible about the affair, about how working out helped her get into great shape. She mentioned how she figured there would be people disappointed in her and, in a bit of smugness that obviously isn’t true, she said how the experience she knows she can face anything.

Yet, when someone expresses disappointment in her, one of the things she does is tries to have a pity party with her fans on Twitter. That doesn’t seem like someone who is able to face anything. It seems like a farce since the tone of the article seems to be hey, I was feeling down about my marriage so I had an affair, worked out and now I feel so much better and have a killer bod for all my troubles. People, for whatever reason, are curious about stars and their personal lives, but many times celebrities will come off as idiots because they air their dirty laundry in the dumbest of places, and then get mad when they’re called on it. LeAnn is on the cover of a magazine with her hand on her hip and her low body fat image and feels this would be a good time to talk about her failed marriage. She opens up and says she was the one who did wrong, then wants forgiveness while she flaunts her killer body. One talk show host calls her on the stupidity of her actions because of information LeAnn freely gave to be published, and the first thing does is cry foul.

The LeAnn Rimes incident seems like small potatoes compared to Lindsay Lohan’s Twitter addiction. A few days ago it was reported that she had failed not one but two drug tests. She was quick to claim it was a lie, going so far as to issue a statement to the press. Hours later she confessed through Twitter that she had failed the drug test. Now there are a number of ways you can spin the story, for instance she could claim she didn’t know she failed the drug test when she made the initial statement and when she learned of the facts she corrected it on Twitter. The thing is days later the Twitter comment wasn’t elaborated on so we have a person, which is unusual in this case because in a lot of cases the situation is reversed, where she lied to the press about a personal matter before correcting it through Twitter.

Time and time again these celebrities try to manipulate us while barely understanding the technology they use. Anyone with rudimentary skills can call up a few keystrokes on an internet connected computer and verify a lot of information. The time of trying to snow people, and this goes for celebrities as well as politicians, is over.
