The movie is still not perfect. There are lines said that work great on the page but not said out loud, but I like this version of the movie. The DVD adds over 20 minutes of footage and for the most part it serves the story well. I can see from an editing standpoint why some cuts were made in the final product, but with those cuts added the film flows better, especially with scenes that don’t seem to make sense because of the edits.

Still, this film is for fans of the series. Someone not familiar with comics and its conventions will not get the insider stuff. They will be shocked by the violence. Someone who will want to be completely faithful to the series will also find fault. This version doesn’t clear up all the holes but as I’ve told a number of people, Watchmen is a good study of the film process.

If there’s an area I have questions on would be the knot-top scene, just before their encounter with Hollis. The scene failed for me on all levels. It was like it was added by some armatures and everything from staging to line delivery was terrible. I even hated the makeup on the knot tops because it didn’t seem consistent with the established make up.

So with the DVD it enhances the film with some extra footage, but it doesn’t correct nor destroys what was seen in the theater. If you liked the movie the DVD will be great.
